Amid intense heatwave conditions in Chhattisgarh, Maitri Bagh Zoo in Bhilai has introduced special measures to protect wildlife from soaring temperatures.

The zoo, which houses more than 400 rare wildlife species, has made extensive arrangements such as water spraying, revised diet plans, cooling systems, and shade protection for animals and birds.

Zoo In-charge and Veterinary Officer Dr N. K. Jain said temperatures in the region have crossed 42°C, affecting both humans and animals. He said the zoo has installed coolers, artificial waterfalls, and sprinklers to help animals cope with the heat.

He added that green shade nets have been placed in the bird and monkey enclosures, blocking nearly 80 per cent of sunlight and offering relief from extreme weather conditions.

Visitors also appreciated the arrangements. Tourist Pawan Kumar Pal said water facilities and sprinklers had been arranged for animals and urged people to step outdoors only when necessary during the ongoing heatwave.
