National Capital Set for Brighter Roads with Smart LED Project
In a major push towards energy-efficient urban infrastructure, the Delhi government has approved a large-scale smart LED streetlight replacement project worth nearly ₹473 crore. The initiative aims to replace around 96,000 existing streetlights across the national capital with advanced smart LED systems before Diwali, ensuring brighter roads, improved public safety, reduced power consumption, and better monitoring through smart technology integration.
The Delhi government has approved a major infrastructure upgrade project to replace all conventional streetlights in the national capital with smart LED lighting systems. The decision was cleared during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The ambitious project, estimated at nearly ₹473 crore, will cover approximately 96,000 streetlights spread across various parts of Delhi. The government plans to complete the replacement work before the upcoming Diwali festival, with the objective of making the city brighter, safer, and more energy-efficient.
According to officials, the smart LED lighting system will help improve visibility on roads, reduce electricity consumption, and support better maintenance through intelligent monitoring systems. The project is also expected to contribute to lower operational costs and strengthen public safety during nighttime.
The initiative forms part of the Delhi government’s broader urban modernization and smart infrastructure development strategy. Authorities believe the transition to LED technology will significantly enhance the city’s lighting network while supporting environmental sustainability goals through reduced energy usage and carbon emissions.
