India’s challenge in the singles competition at the Singapore Open Super 750 came to an end on Friday as PV Sindhu suffered a quarterfinal defeat to world No. 1 An Se Young.

The two-time Olympic medallist displayed moments of aggressive and attacking badminton but was unable to maintain consistency against the reigning Olympic champion. An Se Young’s superior court coverage, control, and ability to win crucial points helped her secure a 21-17, 21-14 victory.

The result further extended Sindhu’s difficult record against the Korean star. She has now lost nine consecutive matches against An Se Young and has managed to take only one game off her during that period, at the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships.

Despite the defeat, Sindhu showed signs of improvement and competitiveness against one of the strongest players in world badminton, raising hopes for future tournaments.

Meanwhile, India had reason to celebrate in the doubles competition as the star men’s pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty battled their way into the semifinals.

The former world No. 1 duo produced a gritty performance in a hard-fought contest, keeping India’s hopes alive in the prestigious Super 750 event.

Their advancement to the last four continues a strong run of form and places them within touching distance of another major international final.
