Indian Football Fraternity Mourns Death of ‘Tutu Babu’
Former Mohun Bagan Super Giant president Swapan Sadhan Bose, popularly known as “Tutu Babu” in Kolkata’s Maidan football circles, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 79.
Bose, regarded as one of the most influential personalities in Indian football administration, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata for multiple health complications. According to family sources, he breathed his last around 11:45 pm on Tuesday.
A towering figure in the history of Mohun Bagan and Indian football, Bose played a major role in shaping the club’s administration and strengthening its presence in domestic football over several decades.
His mortal remains will be kept at the Mohun Bagan club tent on Wednesday to allow fans, players, and sports enthusiasts to pay their final respects. The cremation is scheduled to take place later in the day at around 4:30 pm.
Tributes have started pouring in from across the Indian sporting community, with many remembering Bose for his contribution to football administration and his deep association with one of India’s oldest and most iconic football clubs.
