India registered the biggest victory in their Test cricket history, defeating Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs inside three days in the one-off Test at New Chandigarh. The comprehensive win surpassed the team’s previous record margin and showcased a dominant all-round performance.
The India national cricket team created history by recording their largest-ever victory in Test cricket, defeating Afghanistan national cricket team by an innings and 300 runs on the third day of the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
After posting a massive first-innings total of 564 for 8 declared, India dominated proceedings with both bat and ball. Afghanistan were bowled out for 152 in their first innings before lunch on Day 3, prompting India to enforce the follow-on. The visitors fared little better in their second innings, managing just 112 runs in 35.5 overs, as India sealed a comprehensive victory within three days.
India’s commanding performance was built on an impressive batting display. KL Rahul scored a fluent century, making 100 runs, while captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a superb 126. Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant added valuable contributions of 81 runs each, while Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 52.
The bowlers ensured Afghanistan never recovered. Debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar delivered a memorable performance, claiming 6 wickets for 33 runs in Afghanistan’s first innings. In the second innings, Washington Sundar continued his impressive all-round display by taking 4 wickets for 36 runs, helping wrap up the match swiftly.
The victory surpassed India’s previous biggest Test win and stands as the most dominant result in the country’s Test cricket history. The performance highlighted India’s depth in both batting and bowling while underlining their growing strength in the longest format of the game.
