The Indian men’s team bowed out of the World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals after a disappointing 0-3 defeat to Austria in the round of 32 on Tuesday.

India struggled to find momentum in the knockout clash, with Manav Thakkar and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran going down in straight-forward matches against their Austrian opponents.

The lone bright spot for India came from Manush Shah, who put up a spirited fight against Robert Gardos in the opening match of the tie. Shah started strongly, taking the first game 11-6, but Gardos bounced back to win the next two games 11-7 and 11-3. Shah responded by claiming the fourth game 11-8, pushing the match into a decider.

However, in a closely contested final game, Shah narrowly lost 11-13, ending India’s hopes early in the tie. The match lasted 46 minutes and set the tone for the rest of the encounter, which concluded in one hour and 34 minutes.

With this defeat, India’s campaign at the prestigious tournament comes to an early end, highlighting the gap that still exists at the highest level of international table tennis competition.
