Political uncertainty over the formation of a new government in Tamil Nadu deepened on Friday after the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) rejected reports claiming it had extended support to Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay to stake claim to form the government following recent political developments in the state. According to reports, Vijay met the Governor again on Friday and claimed that his party had the required majority support to form the government.

However, fresh uncertainty emerged after IUML president Khader Mohideen clarified in a press release that the party had not issued any letter of support to TVK.

The IUML statement added that the party supported the formation of a new government in line with the views expressed by M. K. Stalin that the Governor should facilitate the swearing-in process for a new administration.

Reports also suggested that the swearing-in ceremony, which was earlier expected to take place on Saturday, may now be postponed.

TVK leaders are reportedly seeking formal support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), which is expected to submit a letter of support soon. In another development, VCK MLA Vanni Arasu indicated through a social media post that the party could participate in the proposed government.

Meanwhile, T. T. V. Dhinakaran of the Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam (AMMK) also met the Governor and submitted a letter of support from MLA S. Kamaraj in favour of Edappadi K. Palaniswami as chief minister.

The fast-changing political situation has created uncertainty over who will ultimately secure enough support to form the next government in Tamil Nadu.
