Puducherry Set for Assembly Polls Today; Over 9.5 Lakh Voters to Decide Fate of 294 Candidates

Puducherry, April 9: Voting for the Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Puducherry will be held today, with over 9.5 lakh voters set to decide the electoral fate of 294 candidates across 30 constituencies.

Polling will commence at 7:00 AM and continue till the evening across all regions of the Union Territory, including Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam. Authorities have put in place extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections.

Chief Electoral Officer P Jawahar stated on Wednesday that all necessary preparations have been completed, and polling personnel have been deployed across the territory. He also confirmed that security arrangements have been strengthened, particularly in sensitive areas.

A total of 1,099 polling stations have been set up for the elections, out of which 209 have been identified as vulnerable. Additional security forces have been deployed at these locations to maintain law and order and ensure a free and fair voting process.

Election officials have urged voters to participate in large numbers and exercise their democratic right responsibly. Special arrangements have also been made to assist elderly voters and persons with disabilities at polling stations.

The elections are expected to witness keen competition among major political parties, with the results likely to have a significant impact on the political landscape of the Union Territory.
