Political War Intensifies in Bengal After Falta Candidate Exit
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday claimed that the Trinamool Congress has weakened politically following its performance in the West Bengal assembly elections and asserted that the “Red Flag” remains the only force capable of resisting the BJP. CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty also alleged that the TMC effectively gave a walkover to the BJP in the Falta repoll contest after candidate Jahangir Khan withdrew from the race.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) on Tuesday asserted that the party’s “Red Flag” remains the only effective force to counter the BJP in West Bengal following the recent assembly election outcome.
Reacting to the withdrawal of Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan from the repoll contest in the Falta constituency of South 24 Parganas district, CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty alleged that the ruling All India Trinamool Congress had effectively handed over the seat to the BJP.
In a social media post, Chakraborty claimed that the TMC had become a “degraded force” after its electoral setback in the West Bengal assembly elections and argued that only the Left can genuinely resist the BJP while raising people’s issues.
The remarks came shortly after Jahangir Khan announced that he was stepping away from the Falta repoll contest. Earlier, the TMC had clarified that Khan’s decision to withdraw was personal and not a party-directed move.
The Falta constituency in South 24 Parganas has drawn political attention following developments surrounding the repoll and allegations of political pressure and intimidation raised by various parties.
Political exchanges between the TMC, BJP, and Left parties have intensified in the aftermath of the state election results declared on May 4, with opposition parties attempting to reposition themselves ahead of future electoral battles in the state.
The CPI(M)’s comments underline the continuing political rivalry in West Bengal, where parties are competing to establish themselves as the principal opposition force against the BJP and the ruling TMC.
