Election Commission Row Deepens Political Tensions in Madhya Pradesh
The Congress on Tuesday strongly criticised the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination papers in Madhya Pradesh, accusing the BJP of undermining democratic processes. Senior party leaders later attempted to submit a petition to the Election Commission but claimed they were denied entry.
The Indian National Congress on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the rejection of the Rajya Sabha nomination papers of Meenakshi Natarajan in Madhya Pradesh.
Describing the development as a “daylight robbery of democracy,” the opposition party alleged that the BJP was attempting to weaken democratic institutions and subvert the electoral process through what it termed “clandestine” means.

The Congress asserted that it would challenge the decision both legally and politically.
“We will not take this lying down and will fight this legally and politically on the streets,” party leaders said.
The controversy triggered dramatic scenes late in the evening at the Election Commission of India (ECI) office, where several senior Congress leaders gathered to submit a formal petition against the rejection of the nomination papers.
Among those present were Congress general secretaries Jairam Ramesh, K. C. Venugopal, Bhupesh Baghel, Sachin Pilot, and Deepa Dasmunsi.

According to the party, the delegation sought to present its objections before the Election Commission but was allegedly denied entry into the premises, further intensifying the political confrontation.
The rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination has quickly emerged as a major flashpoint between the Congress and the BJP, with the opposition questioning the transparency and fairness of the process.
While the Congress has alleged political interference and procedural irregularities, there has been no immediate response from the BJP regarding the accusations.
The issue is now expected to move beyond the political arena into the legal domain, with the Congress indicating that it will explore all available constitutional and judicial remedies. The controversy could also become a key political issue in the coming days, particularly in Madhya Pradesh, where both parties are likely to intensify their campaigns around the matter.
