EC Orders Zero Tolerance on Post-Poll Violence in West Bengal
Chief Secretary, DGP and CAPFs directed to act firmly after reported killings and vandalism
The Election Commission of India on Tuesday directed top officials in West Bengal to enforce a zero-tolerance approach against any incidents of post-poll violence.
The directive was issued to Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala, Director General of Police Siddh Nath Gupta, and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), following reports of violence across the state.
According to a senior official, at least two persons were allegedly killed in separate incidents during the day, while several party offices were vandalised, raising concerns over law and order in the aftermath of the election results.
“Clear instructions have been given to ensure that peace prevails and any attempt to disrupt it is dealt with firmly. The EC has asked all authorities concerned to act decisively against any form of post-poll violence. There has to be zero tolerance, irrespective of who is involved,” the official said.
The Commission emphasized that maintaining peace and ensuring public safety remains a priority, with strict action expected against those responsible for any unrest.
