EC Calls in NIA to Ensure Bomb-Free Voting in Bengal
National Investigation Agency officials have been deployed in at least seven Assembly constituencies of West Bengal where the second phase of polling is underway on Wednesday.
The deployment comes after the Election Commission of India asked the federal agency to help ensure that bombs or explosives are not used to disrupt the voting process.
According to officials, NIA personnel have been stationed in constituencies including Kasba, Bhangar, Baruipur and Bishnupur, among others.
Officials said the decision was taken based on specific security inputs, with Bhangar receiving special attention due to its history of poll-related violence. The move is part of heightened security arrangements for the crucial second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026.
