Assam Awaits Verdict as Vote Counting Begins Monday
Fate of 722 candidates across 126 seats to be decided amid tight security
The high-voltage electoral battle for Assam has reached its Final stage, with counting of votes set to take place on Monday across the state. The results will determine whether the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secures a third consecutive term in power or if the Congress manages to stage a comeback after an intense and closely fought campaign.
A total of 722 candidates contested across 126 assembly constituencies, reflecting a diverse political landscape shaped by identity politics, welfare promises, and regional aspirations. Notably, 59 women candidates are part of this electoral contest, highlighting gradual progress in gender representation.
The counting process will be conducted at 40 centres spread across all 35 districts of Assam under strict security arrangements. Special logistical arrangements have been made in key districts: Nagaon will have three counting centres, while Kokrajhar, Tinsukia, and Jorhat will each have two centres to manage the volume efficiently.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which hold the fate of all candidates, will be opened in a phased and monitored manner. Authorities have deployed multi-layered security, including central forces, to ensure transparency and prevent any disruptions during the counting process.
The outcome is expected to shape Assam’s political direction significantly, with major implications for governance, regional dynamics, and national political equations.
