In a significant development for the Indian judiciary, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday notified the appointment of five judges to the Supreme Court of India. The appointments were formally announced through notifications issued by the ministry, further strengthening the country’s highest judicial institution.

The newly appointed judges are Venkita Subramani Mohana, Shree Chandrashekhar, Sheel Nagu, Sanjeev Sachdeva, and Arun Palli.

The appointments reflect the convention of elevating experienced chief justices and senior judges from high courts to the Supreme Court, ensuring that the apex court benefits from a wide range of judicial expertise and administrative experience.

Judicial appointments to the Supreme Court are crucial for maintaining the court’s capacity to hear constitutional matters, civil and criminal appeals, and cases of national importance. The addition of five judges is expected to help address case pendency and improve the overall efficiency of judicial administration.

The newly elevated judges have served in various capacities across different high courts and have handled a broad spectrum of legal matters during their judicial careers. Their experience is expected to contribute significantly to the functioning of the Supreme Court.
