Double-Decker Bus Crash on Expressway Kills Six in Uttar Pradesh

At least six people, including a police sub-inspector, were killed and 21 others injured after a double-decker AC bus overturned on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao district early Tuesday morning.

A major road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao district claimed six lives and left 21 others injured early Tuesday, police said.

The accident occurred around 5:15 am near Nibha Kheda village when a double-decker AC bus travelling from New Delhi to Bihar carrying nearly 50 passengers reportedly went out of control and overturned.

According to preliminary investigation findings, the driver is suspected to have lost control of the vehicle after allegedly dozing off while driving.

Police said six people, including a police sub-inspector travelling on the bus, died in the crash. Twenty-one injured passengers were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.

Emergency teams and local police personnel reached the accident site soon after the incident and launched rescue and relief operations.

Road accidents caused by driver fatigue and overspeeding continue to remain a major concern on highways across India, particularly during long-distance overnight journeys. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
