Court Orders State to Explain Police Inaction in Bhimtal Case
The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday directed the state government to submit an investigation report regarding the death of an 18-year-old BCA student at Graphic Era Hill University last year.
Justice Rakesh Thapliyal asked the state authorities to explain why a case was not registered on the basis of the family’s initial complaint, which reportedly compelled them to file a Zero FIR in Lucknow.
The directions were issued during the hearing of a petition filed by the student’s father, a resident of Lucknow, who alleged that his daughter had complained of ragging by seniors and had been deeply distressed by the incidents.
He further claimed that CCTV footage showed that she had been molested.
The court’s intervention has brought renewed focus on campus safety, prompt police action, and accountability in cases involving student welfare.
