Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu today reviewed the progress of the ‘Jaladhara-Jalaharati’ water conservation programme through a teleconference with officials.

Naidu directed nodal officers in every mandal to take full responsibility for implementation and said strict monitoring should also be ensured in urban areas. He instructed officials to replicate the successful water conservation model implemented in Annamayya district across the state.

Calling the initiative a priority, the Chief Minister ordered repairs of canals and tanks to prevent flooding during heavy rains and to ensure that all water bodies are filled during the monsoon.

He also asked officials to improve drainage systems in West Godavari district, noting that improved groundwater levels could reduce electricity consumption and allow savings to be redirected to development works.

Naidu further directed that temple tanks, or Pushkarinis, be properly maintained and filled, and called for a clear action plan to ensure water availability. He stressed public participation and regular impact assessment for long-term success of the programme.
