West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced the implementation of a mechanism through which infiltrators apprehended by the state police will be handed over directly to the Border Security Force for deportation procedures.

Addressing a press conference at Nabanna, the state secretariat of West Bengal, Adhikari said the mechanism would operationalise provisions communicated by the Central Government last year regarding the transfer of infiltrators to the BSF.

The Chief Minister clarified that communities protected under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, commonly known as the CAA, would not fall within the purview of this arrangement. According to him, the mechanism is intended to streamline coordination between state law enforcement agencies and border security authorities in handling illegal infiltration cases.

The announcement comes amid continued political and administrative discussions over border security, illegal immigration, and citizenship-related issues in eastern India. Officials indicated that the mechanism aims to strengthen enforcement procedures while ensuring that legal provisions related to citizenship and protected communities are maintained.
