West Bengal Government Issues Fresh Holiday Notification for Eid al-Adha
The Government of West Bengal has declared May 28, 2026, as a public holiday on account of Eid al-Adha (Bakrid), revising its earlier notification. Holidays previously announced for May 26 and May 27 have now been cancelled, making both days working days for government offices and institutions.
The Government of West Bengal has issued a revised notification declaring May 28, 2026 (Thursday), as a public holiday on account of Eid al-Adha, commonly known as Bakrid.
According to the official notification, the decision partially modifies an earlier holiday notification issued by the state government. As a result, the holidays previously scheduled for May 26, 2026 (Tuesday) for the day before Bakrid, and May 27, 2026 (Wednesday) for Bakrid itself, have been cancelled.
The revised order clarifies that both May 26 and May 27 will now be treated as regular working days for all government offices, institutions, and establishments covered under the notification.
The state government stated that the Governor had approved the revised holiday arrangement in accordance with administrative requirements and the observance schedule of the festival.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most significant festivals in Islam and is observed with prayers, charity, and community gatherings across India and many parts of the world.
