West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday held his first “janata darbar” or public grievance hearing session after assuming office earlier this month.

The programme was organised at a Bharatiya Janata Party office in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata.

Adhikari, who took oath as West Bengal’s first BJP chief minister on May 9, interacted directly with citizens and listened to their demands, complaints, and suggestions.

According to party leaders, the chief minister has decided to hold regular janata darbar sessions as part of efforts to establish direct communication with the public.

Several people, including students and local residents, attended the interaction session and submitted their grievances and requests to the chief minister.

Officials and party representatives were also present during the programme to record issues raised by citizens and facilitate follow-up action.

Public grievance hearing programmes such as janata darbars are often used by political leaders and governments to engage directly with people and address administrative concerns at the grassroots level.

The initiative comes shortly after the BJP formed its first government in West Bengal following the 2026 Assembly elections.
