A Trinamool Congress party office linked to MP Bapi Haldar in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district was vandalised by local residents who alleged that flood relief materials were being stored there illegally and that the structure was built on a waterbody.
A party office associated with Bapi Haldar in Mathurapur, located in South 24 Parganas, was vandalised by local villagers on Sunday, police said.
According to officials, a group of residents gathered outside the office and damaged parts of the property, alleging that flood relief materials had been illegally stored inside the premises.
Allegations by Villagers
The protesters claimed that:
- Flood relief materials were being stored at the party office.
- The office structure had been constructed illegally on a waterbody.
- Public resources were being misused.
During the incident, window panes and signboards at the office were damaged.
Police Intervention
A police officer said authorities reached the spot after receiving information about the disturbance and brought the situation under control.
“The situation was brought under control and the assembled people were dispersed,” the officer said.
Investigation Likely
Police have not yet confirmed the allegations made by the villagers regarding the storage of relief materials or the legality of the structure. Authorities are expected to verify the claims and assess the extent of the damage caused during the vandalism.
