SC Declines to Hear Bail Plea in Industrial Protest Violence Matter
The Supreme Court of India declined to grant bail to student accused Aakriti Chaudhary in connection with alleged violence during an industrial workers’ protest in Noida.
The Supreme Court of India on Friday refused to grant bail to Aakriti Chaudhary, who is accused of inciting violence during an industrial workers’ protest held in Noida on April 13.
A bench comprising Justices B. V. Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan advised the petitioner’s counsel to approach the Allahabad High Court instead.
During the hearing, the bench questioned the direct filing of the petition before the apex court under Article 32 of the Constitution.
“Why don’t you go to the high court? Everybody comes here by filing petitions under Article 32 of the Constitution. There are 93,000 cases pending in the Supreme Court,” the bench observed.
The case pertains to alleged violence linked to an industrial workers’ protest in Noida, during which authorities claimed unlawful activities and disruption of public order had taken place.
The Supreme Court’s refusal to entertain the bail plea at this stage means the accused will now likely have to seek relief from the Allahabad High Court.
The matter has drawn attention due to its connection with labour protests and the legal scrutiny surrounding allegations of instigation and public unrest.
