Monsoon Reaches More Parts of Goa, Karnataka and Arabian Sea

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday announced that the southwest monsoon has advanced further into several parts of the country, bringing seasonal rainfall to additional regions.

According to the weather agency, the monsoon has progressed into parts of the east-central and west-central Arabian Sea, sections of Goa, and additional areas of Karnataka.

The IMD also noted that favorable monsoon conditions are prevailing over Tamil Nadu and the southwest Bay of Bengal.

Meteorologists have indicated that conditions remain conducive for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into:

• More parts of the central Arabian Sea
• Additional regions of Karnataka
• Parts of Maharashtra
• Areas of Andhra Pradesh
• Remaining parts of Goa
• Remaining areas of Tamil Nadu
• More sections of the southwest Bay of Bengal

The weather agency has also forecast that similar favorable conditions are likely to prevail over additional parts of the west-central, east-central, and northeast Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.

Furthermore, the monsoon is expected to advance into parts of the Northeastern states, bringing rainfall and improving moisture conditions across the region.

The southwest monsoon is a crucial weather system for India, contributing nearly 70 percent of the country’s annual rainfall. Its progress is closely monitored as it plays a vital role in agriculture, water resources, hydropower generation, and overall economic activity.

Farmers and agricultural stakeholders are particularly attentive to monsoon developments, as timely rainfall supports sowing operations for key kharif crops such as rice, pulses, cotton, and oilseeds.
