At least 33 people were killed on Wednesday after a powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall lashed several districts of Uttar Pradesh, causing widespread destruction and disruption.

According to officials, the highest number of fatalities was reported from Bhadohi, where 16 people lost their lives. Nine deaths were reported from Fatehpur, while five people were killed in Budaun. Two deaths were recorded in Chandauli and one in Sonbhadra.

Officials said many of the deaths were caused by collapsing structures, uprooted trees, lightning strikes, and weather-related accidents triggered by the intense storm system.

Yogi Adityanath has directed district officials to ensure immediate relief operations and provide compensation to families affected by the unseasonal rain, thunderstorms, and lightning incidents.

Emergency teams have been deployed in affected areas to restore normalcy, clear debris, and assist residents impacted by the severe weather conditions.

The sudden spell of extreme weather has also damaged crops, disrupted electricity supply, and affected transportation in several districts. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as more rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast in parts of northern India.
