Mayyanad Parthasarathy turns violent near Kidangoor Mahavishnu Temple; later tranquilised and secured

A tragic incident unfolded in Angamaly when a temple elephant, identified as Mayyanad Parthasarathy, ran amok near the Kidangoor Mahavishnu Temple during a festival, resulting in the death of a man and damage to several vehicles.

The elephant had been tethered near the temple premises during a break in the festivities when it suddenly became aggressive, causing panic among devotees and bystanders. Eyewitnesses reported chaos as the animal broke free and rampaged through the area.

Authorities and handlers launched an intensive operation to bring the situation under control. After sustained efforts, the elephant was successfully tranquilised and captured. It is currently being closely monitored in an open ground near the temple.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over safety measures and the management of elephants during temple festivals in Kerala, where such animals are commonly used in religious events.

Officials are expected to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the incident and review existing safety protocols.
