Oscar-Winning Filmmaker Pasha Talankin Loses Statuette at JFK Airport

Security officials reportedly stopped him from carrying award onboard flight despite prior travel with it

Russian filmmaker Pasha Talankin, co-director of the Academy Award-winning documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin, has reportedly lost his Oscar statuette following an incident at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Talankin, who also featured as the protagonist in the documentary, said the issue arose at a security checkpoint on Wednesday when officials did not permit him to carry the statuette onboard his flight. The iconic award, weighing approximately 3.8 kg, was reportedly flagged during screening.

The filmmaker noted that he had previously travelled more than a dozen times with the Oscar since receiving it at the Academy Awards earlier this year, without facing any issues.

The incident has raised questions about airport security procedures and handling of valuable personal items, especially high-profile awards like the Oscar statuette.
