Special arrangements have been made at the Sardar Patel Zoological Park, popularly known as Jungle Safari, to protect animals and birds from the intense summer heat, officials said on Saturday.

Located near the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, the zoological park houses nearly 1,500 animals and birds representing around 100 species from India and several other countries.

Officials said the zoo administration has installed air-conditioners, sprinklers, coolers, and water-based cooling systems in animal enclosures to maintain comfortable temperatures. Animals are also being provided with chilled food items and specially prepared popsicles to help them cope with the scorching heat.

Jungle Safari Director Vipul Chakravarty said the measures are particularly important for exotic species brought from countries with comparatively cooler climates.

According to zoo authorities, veterinary teams and animal caretakers are closely monitoring the health and behaviour of animals to prevent heat-related stress and dehydration during the ongoing summer season.

The arrangements are part of seasonal animal welfare practices followed by zoological parks across India during periods of extreme temperatures.

The Jungle Safari near the Statue of Unity has emerged as one of Gujarat’s major tourist attractions and features a wide range of wildlife species including exotic mammals, reptiles, and birds from different parts of the world.
