The Kashmiri-language film Batt Koch, also titled The Lost Lane in English, is set to be showcased at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), one of the prominent platforms for Indian independent cinema abroad.

Directed by first-time filmmakers Ankit Walli and Siddarth Koul, and produced by Vinayak Razdan, the film revolves around themes linked to the Kashmiri Pandit diaspora and emotional displacement. The movie is scheduled to be screened at the annual festival on May 30.

According to a press release, Batt Koch has received nominations in two categories at the festival — Best Debut Feature Film and Best Actor for veteran actor and theatre personality M K Raina.

The recognition at NYIFF is being viewed as a significant achievement for the film’s creators, particularly as it marks the directorial debut of the filmmakers. The project also highlights the increasing global interest in regional Indian cinema and stories rooted in cultural identity, migration, and memory.

Film critics and festival observers believe that independent films exploring regional narratives and social histories continue to gain strong visibility on international platforms dedicated to world cinema.
