Government Pushes AI Integration in Indian Classrooms
Ministry of Education plans to focus on artificial intelligence training for teachers over the next few months to improve classroom teaching, lesson planning and student assessment.
The Ministry of Education will prioritise training teachers in the use of artificial intelligence tools over the next three to four months to enhance teaching practices and classroom learning, a senior official said.
The initiative is aimed at helping educators integrate AI into lesson planning, classroom instruction and student assessment processes.
The announcement follows the launch of the “AI Literacy for Teachers” programme by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during the IIT Madras Technology Summit held at Bharat Mandapam on May 5.
The programme has been introduced by Bodhan AI, a Centre of Excellence in AI for Education incubated at Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
According to officials, the initiative aims to train around 10 lakh teachers by 2027, equipping them with practical AI skills that can support modern teaching methodologies and improve educational outcomes.
The programme is part of broader efforts to integrate emerging technologies into India’s education system and prepare teachers and students for an increasingly digital future.
Experts believe AI-based tools can assist educators in automating routine tasks, creating personalised learning experiences and improving assessment efficiency, while also helping students develop future-ready skills.
The initiative also highlights the growing role of Indian educational institutions and technology centres in advancing AI adoption across public education systems.
