CBSE Strengthens Digital Defences as Post-Result Applications Surge
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) successfully defended its website against a massive denial-of-service (DoS) attack involving 3.8 million packets on Wednesday. Despite the cyberattack, the board’s portal continued functioning and received more than 56,000 applications for verification and re-evaluation of examination results.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday announced that it had successfully thwarted a significant cyberattack targeting its website while continuing to process thousands of student applications for post-result services.
In an update posted on social media, the board stated that it had neutralized a 3.8 million-packet Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack launched against its online platform during the afternoon. A DoS attack is designed to overwhelm a website or server with excessive traffic, potentially disrupting services for legitimate users.
Despite the attempted disruption, CBSE reported that its systems remained operational and continued to support students seeking verification and re-evaluation of their examination results.
According to the board, the portal had received more than 56,000 applications for verification and re-evaluation by 9:30 pm on Wednesday. The high volume of submissions reflects the significant demand for post-result services following the declaration of board examination results.
The latest cyberattack comes amid heightened scrutiny of CBSE’s digital infrastructure. In recent days, the board has faced technical challenges related to its post-result services and concerns raised by students regarding the evaluation process under the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
CBSE has been actively strengthening its cybersecurity framework, deploying technical experts and implementing enhanced security measures to protect critical student services from cyber threats. The board has also stated that it is working with specialists to continuously monitor its systems and address vulnerabilities.
The successful mitigation of the attack ensured that students were able to continue accessing the portal without major disruption, an important development given the limited window available for verification and re-evaluation requests.
Education and cybersecurity experts note that attacks on public service portals often intensify during periods of high traffic, making robust digital security measures essential for maintaining uninterrupted services.
CBSE has assured students and parents that it remains committed to providing secure, transparent, and reliable online services throughout the post-result process.
