Special CBI Teams Deployed in NEET Leak Investigation
Special Investigation Teams Formed as NTA Announces Fee Refund and Re-Exam
Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case in connection with the alleged paper leak and irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination.
The agency said the FIR was filed following a written complaint from the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.
According to the CBI, the case includes charges related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, theft, destruction of evidence, and violations under the Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act, 2024.
The investigating agency stated that special CBI teams have been formed and sent to multiple locations across the country to probe the matter. Officials said the investigation aims to determine the scale of the alleged irregularities and identify individuals or organisations involved in the suspected malpractice network.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Singh, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, announced that the National Testing Agency will refund NEET-UG examination fees paid by students.
He also confirmed that a fresh examination would be conducted without any additional charges for candidates. Singh stated that maintaining the integrity and credibility of the examination process was the agency’s highest priority, adding that even the slightest doubt over fairness warranted cancellation of the exam.
The NEET-UG 2026 examination was conducted by the NTA on May 3 and was attended by more than 22 lakh medical aspirants nationwide.
