The India women’s national football team booked their place in the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship with a hard-fought 1-0 win over a resilient Bhutan in the second semifinal on Wednesday.

Despite entering the match as overwhelming favorites after scoring 14 goals in their two group-stage fixtures, India found it difficult to break down Bhutan’s disciplined defense. The visitors once again showcased the organization and determination that had helped them reach a third consecutive semifinal appearance.

The breakthrough finally came in the 60th minute when Sanfida Nongrum scored the decisive goal, giving the hosts the lead and ultimately securing their passage to the title clash.

Bhutan continued to defend resolutely and looked to frustrate the Indian attack throughout the contest, but India’s defense held firm to preserve the narrow advantage until the final whistle.

With the victory, India advanced to the championship match, where they will take on defending champions Bangladesh women’s national football team at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

The final promises to be a highly anticipated encounter between two of South Asia’s strongest women’s football teams. India will be aiming to capture a record-extending sixth SAFF Women’s Championship title, while Bangladesh will look to successfully defend the crown they won in the previous edition.
