The Government of Sikkim has withdrawn the odd-even restriction on the movement of private vehicles across all districts of the state with immediate effect.

According to a notification issued by the state’s Home Department on Sunday, the relaxation will apply throughout Sikkim, with the exception of Gangtok, where the restriction will continue to remain in force.

Reason for the Decision

The government said the decision was taken following a review of the state’s fuel availability situation.

Officials confirmed that sufficient buffer stocks of:

  • Motor Spirit (Petrol)
  • High-Speed Diesel (HSD)

have been created to meet current and near-term requirements across the state.

The Home Department noted that improved fuel availability has eased concerns regarding supply management, allowing authorities to lift restrictions in most parts of the state.

Background

The odd-even vehicle regulation had been introduced as a temporary measure to manage fuel consumption and ensure equitable distribution of available petroleum products during a period of supply constraints.

With fuel inventories now stabilised, the government believes normal vehicular movement can resume across the majority of the state without affecting essential fuel reserves.

Authorities will continue to monitor fuel stocks and transportation logistics while maintaining the restriction in Gangtok, where traffic management and local conditions may require additional measures.
