West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced that the Census 2027 exercise in the state will be conducted from August 1, 2026, to the end of February 2027, urging citizens to actively participate and emphasizing that the exercise is not linked to politics.
Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday announced that the Census 2027 exercise in West Bengal will commence on August 1, 2026, and continue until the end of February 2027.
Addressing the public, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of the nationwide population enumeration exercise and appealed to residents across the state to cooperate fully with census officials.
He stated that the census process would continue until midnight on the last day of February next year and emphasized that the exercise should not be viewed through a political lens.
“The census in Bengal will begin from August 1 and continue till midnight on February end next year. It has no connection with politics,” the Chief Minister said.

The census is one of the largest administrative exercises conducted in India and plays a crucial role in collecting demographic, social, economic, and housing-related data. The information gathered is used for policy formulation, welfare planning, resource allocation, and governance decisions at both state and national levels.
Officials are expected to undertake extensive household surveys and data collection activities during the enumeration period, covering urban and rural areas across the state.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to provide accurate information and extend full cooperation to census personnel to ensure the successful completion of the exercise.
The Census 2027 process is expected to generate comprehensive data that will help governments better understand population trends and developmental requirements in the years ahead.
