Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday agreed to implement key central government schemes related to science, research, innovation and startup development in West Bengal with immediate effect, according to a senior state government official.

The two leaders also decided to initiate a dedicated scientific study on arsenic poisoning in affected districts of the state through institutions operating under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

In addition, collaborative research projects focusing on cancer treatment and antimicrobial therapies will be launched involving leading scientific and medical institutions.

According to officials, the discussions centred on improving coordination between the Centre and the state government in areas including biotechnology, scientific innovation, clinical studies, startup ecosystems and advanced research collaborations.

The move is expected to strengthen research infrastructure, encourage innovation-driven entrepreneurship and address public health challenges in the state through scientific interventions.

The proposed research initiative aims to deepen scientific understanding and develop effective mitigation strategies.
