An FIR has been lodged against actors Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Swastika Mukherjee in connection with alleged provocative social media posts made during the post-poll violence that followed the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Police officials said the complaint was filed at Gariahat Police Station by advocate Joydeep Sen. According to the complaint, the actors allegedly made remarks on social media that could have incited political violence during the tense atmosphere that prevailed after the election results in May 2021.

The complaint specifically referred to a post allegedly made by Parambrata Chattopadhyay on X, formerly Twitter, on May 2, 2021, after the All India Trinamool Congress secured a majority in the assembly elections. The post reportedly stated, “Let today be declared World Thrashing Day.”
Authorities are examining the allegations and the contents of the social media posts as part of the investigation. The case comes amid continuing political sensitivities surrounding the violence reported in different parts of West Bengal following the 2021 election results.
The issue has also reignited discussions on the role of public figures and social media communication during politically volatile situations.
