A total of 152 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal are going to the polls today in the first phase of the state Assembly elections, covering 16 districts. Voting is being held at 44,376 polling stations, including 2,958 auxiliary booths.

The Election Commission of India has made elaborate arrangements to ensure peaceful polling. A total of 2,407 companies of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed during the first phase to maintain law and order.

Webcasting is being carried out at all polling stations for close monitoring. The Commission has made it clear that booth jamming and any attempt to disrupt the voting process will not be tolerated, warning of strict action against miscreants. As a precautionary measure, suspected persons have been detained and surveillance has been intensified in border areas. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have also been deployed for emergency response.

To facilitate voters, all polling stations have been equipped with essential amenities including drinking water, shaded waiting areas, toilets, and seating arrangements. Mobile phone deposit facilities have been arranged outside polling station entrances. Voter Assistance Booths have also been set up at every polling location to help electors find their polling booth number and serial number in the electoral roll.
