Textile Sector Strengthens with Higher Exports and Policy Support
India’s textile sector registered growth of 2.1 per cent in the financial year 2025-26, reflecting resilience in global markets.
According to the Ministry of Textiles, total exports including handicrafts increased from over ₹3.09 lakh crore in FY 2024-25 to more than ₹3.16 lakh crore in FY 2025-26.
The ministry said the performance indicates steady global demand for Indian textile products and continued competitiveness across major product categories.
Among the key segments, ready-made garments remained the largest contributor to textile exports. Cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products also recorded stable growth.
The government has continued export support measures, including the extension of the Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies Scheme and the RoDTEP Scheme beyond March 31, 2026.
The ministry added that progress in India’s Free Trade Agreement agenda during 2025-26 is expected to improve market access, reduce tariff disadvantages, strengthen supply chains, and create new opportunities for the textile and apparel sector.
Officials said the continued rise in exports and sustained policy support underline the government’s commitment to promoting employment and higher value-added exports.
