West Asia Conflict Hits Makhana Exports, Traders in West Bengal Face Losses

Traders and businessmen in Malda, West Bengal, have reported a severe impact on the makhana (fox nut) industry due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has disrupted key export routes. According to local trader Lalit Agarwal, India relies heavily on Dubai as a major trading hub, from where makhana is re-exported to markets in China and Europe.

However, escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran have significantly affected shipments to the Middle East, causing exports to nearly come to a halt. Traders say the disruption has led to mounting losses and uncertainty in the sector, highlighting the broader economic impact of geopolitical conflicts on local businesses.
