ISI gets full-time director after six months

The Indian Statistical Institute has appointed noted mathematician Amartya Kumar Dutta as its new full-term director, with effect from Wednesday, according to an official notification.

The last full-time director of the premier institute was Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, whose term expired in September last year, following which officiating directors had been leading the ISI.

According to the notification, “Prof Amartya Kumar Dutta is appointed as the Director of the Indian Statistical Institute for a period of five years or until he attains the age of superannuation, whichever is earlier, with effect from April 1, 2026.”
