Hundreds of Kolkata Construction Projects Await Final Green Signal After Safety Checks

Around 60% of nearly 600 real estate projects currently under scrutiny in Kolkata are expected to receive official clearance within the next few days, according to CREDAI West Bengal President Sushil Mohta. He added that most of the remaining projects are also likely to obtain approval before the August 15 deadline.

The review process was made mandatory by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for construction projects exceeding four floors following the collapse of a warehouse in Taratala. As part of the safety review, construction activities at all such projects were temporarily suspended until their approvals could be revalidated.

According to CREDAI, the revalidation exercise is intended to ensure that ongoing developments comply with current safety and regulatory requirements. The approvals under review had been issued during the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, making fresh verification necessary before work could resume. The expected clearances are likely to help restart construction activity across a significant number of projects in the city.
