S Jaishankar will host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi today as India chairs the strategic coalition comprising India, United States, Australia and Japan.

The meeting will be attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The ministers are expected to exchange views on strengthening Quad cooperation across priority sectors, review progress on ongoing initiatives and discuss recent developments in the Indo-Pacific region along with other international issues of mutual concern.

The discussions are being held in line with the Quad’s broader vision of maintaining a free, open, inclusive and resilient Indo-Pacific region. Officials said the meeting will build upon deliberations held during the previous Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Washington, D.C., on July 1 last year.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened global uncertainty, including tensions in West Asia and evolving geopolitical and security challenges in the Indo-Pacific.

The Quad grouping has increasingly focused on practical cooperation in areas such as maritime security, climate change, health security, critical and emerging technologies, supply chain resilience and maritime domain awareness.
