PV Sindhu Advances Comfortably to Round of 16
Indian Shuttlers Shine in Bangkok as Several Players Enter Pre-Quarterfinals
Indian badminton stars P. V. Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Thailand Open Badminton tournament in Bangkok with convincing victories in their respective singles matches.
In the women’s singles category, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu comfortably defeated Tung Ciou-Tong of Chinese Taipei 21-9, 21-12. She will next face Amalie Schulz of Denmark in the Round of 16.
Young Indian shuttler Devika Sihag registered an impressive win over Japan’s world No. 26 Natsuki Nidaira with a scoreline of 21-19, 13-21, 21-15. She will now take on Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh.
Malvika Bansod also progressed after defeating Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang 13-21, 26-24, 21-13. Her next opponent will be China’s Chen Yufei.
However, Indian players Tanvi Sharma, Unnati Hooda and Anmol Kharb suffered early exits after losing their opening matches.
In men’s singles, seventh seed Lakshya Sen defeated Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh 21-16, 21-17 and will next face Chinese Taipei’s Su Li-yang.
Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth produced one of the standout performances of the day by defeating Singapore’s eighth seed Loh Kean Yew 21-14, 21-15. He too will face Su Li-yang in the next round.
Meanwhile, Ayush Shetty lost to Japan’s Kodai Naraoka, while Tharun Mannepalli was defeated by Japan’s Koki Watanabe.
India’s mixed doubles pairs also bowed out of the competition. Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh lost to Tsai Fu Cheng and Sung Yu-Hsuan, while Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto were beaten by Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje.
