Tata Electronics and ASML have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in India.

The partnership was announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the Netherlands.

According to a joint statement, ASML will support the establishment and scaling up of Tata Electronics’ planned 300 mm semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera.

ASML is globally known for its advanced lithography technology and holds a dominant position in the market for specialised semiconductor manufacturing equipment used in producing cutting-edge, small-sized chips.

Officials described the collaboration as a significant step in strengthening strategic cooperation between India and the Netherlands in critical and emerging technologies, particularly semiconductor manufacturing.

ASML President and CEO Christophe Fouquet said India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem offers major opportunities and emphasised the company’s commitment to building long-term partnerships in the country.

India has been actively promoting semiconductor manufacturing through government incentives and infrastructure support as part of efforts to reduce dependence on imports and establish itself as a global electronics and chip manufacturing hub.

The Tata Electronics semiconductor facility in Dholera is considered one of India’s most ambitious chip manufacturing projects and is expected to play a key role in strengthening the country’s technology and electronics supply chain.

Industry experts view the partnership with ASML as a crucial development because advanced lithography systems are considered essential for producing modern semiconductors used in electronics, telecommunications, automotive systems, artificial intelligence, and defence technologies.
