Rishabh Pant Relinquishes LSG Captaincy Following IPL 2026 Struggles
Lucknow Super Giants have accepted Rishabh Pant’s request to relinquish the captaincy following a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign that saw the team finish at the bottom of the table and the wicketkeeper-batter endure a challenging season with the bat.
Rishabh Pant has stepped down as captain of Lucknow Super Giants following a disappointing IPL 2026 season.
The franchise confirmed that Pant requested to be relieved of his captaincy responsibilities, and the management accepted his decision with immediate effect.
In an official statement, Lucknow Super Giants said Pant had approached the franchise with the request, which was accepted after discussions with the team management.
The move comes after a difficult campaign for both Pant and the franchise. LSG finished at the bottom of the 10-team IPL standings, while Pant struggled to make a significant impact with the bat, scoring 312 runs in 14 innings during the season.
Tom Moody acknowledged Pant’s contribution as captain and thanked him for his leadership during his tenure.
Moody stated that decisions of this nature are never easy and expressed appreciation for Pant’s role within the dressing room. He added that the franchise’s immediate focus would be on rebuilding and restructuring the team to achieve higher standards in future seasons.
Pant’s departure from the captaincy marks a significant development for LSG as the franchise begins preparations for IPL 2027. Attention will now turn to the appointment of a new captain and the team’s strategy for rebuilding after a disappointing season.
Despite the setback, Pant remains one of India’s most dynamic wicketkeeper-batters and is expected to continue playing a key role for the franchise as a senior player.
