VD Satheesan takes oath as Chief Minister of Keralam

V D Satheesan on Monday took oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala in the presence of senior political leaders and thousands of supporters in Thiruvananthapuram.

V D Satheesan on Monday took oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala at a ceremony attended by senior national and state political leaders.

Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to Satheesan, who took the oath in the name of God.

Along with the new chief minister, members of his 20-member Cabinet were also sworn in during the ceremony.

The event was attended by Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, among others.

Chief ministers from Congress-ruled states, former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, leaders from Left parties, and representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party were also present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Thousands of Congress workers and supporters travelled from different parts of Kerala to attend the occasion in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram.

The Assembly elections for the 140-member Kerala Assembly were held on April 9, with results announced on May 4.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a decisive victory by winning 102 seats. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won 35 seats, while the BJP secured three seats.

The new government is expected to soon begin outlining its policy priorities and administrative agenda for the state.
