Scheduled Tribe Assembly Seat Reservation Becomes Reality in Goa

The Central Government has officially notified the implementation of the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Act, 2025, paving the way for the reservation of Assembly seats for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Goa. According to the notification published in The Gazette of India, the Act came into force on August 6, 2026.

The implementation of the Act fulfills a long-pending demand of Goa’s tribal communities and enables the process of constituency readjustment and reservation for Scheduled Tribes in the state. The move is expected to strengthen political representation and ensure greater participation of tribal communities in the legislative process.

Welcoming the development, Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant described the notification as a promise fulfilled. In a social media post, he said the legislation represents a significant step towards delivering long-overdue justice and political representation to Scheduled Tribe communities. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for making the legislation a reality, stating that it reflects the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
