Former Minister and Senior Congress leader Mosina Kidwai passes away
Mohina Kidwai (94), one of the senior leaders of the Congress party and a close associate of the Nehru-Gandhi family, passed away yesterday due to old age and ill health.
Mohina Kidwai, who joined the Congress party in 1960, was a loyal leader of the party for over 60 years. She was elected to the Lok Sabha three times from the Meerut constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
She made his mark in Parliament by serving not only as a Lok Sabha member but also as a Rajya Sabha member twice. She held very important portfolios in the cabinets of late former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and worked effectively as a Union Minister in departments like Health, Transport and Rural Development. It is noteworthy that his victory in the Azamgarh by-election was a major turning point in the Congress’s recovery after the crisis.
The 94-year-old had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Noida for the past few days due to age-related ailments. He passed away yesterday morning after failing to recover from the treatment there.
Various political party leaders, including Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, have expressed their deep condolences on his death. Many are paying tribute, saying, “The Congress considers the loss of a great administrator and a pillar of the party a great loss.”
