Election Raid in Thoothukudi: ₹65 Lakh Cash Seized
In a major election enforcement action in Tamil Nadu, the Flying Squad Team (FST) recovered around ₹65 lakh in cash from the residence of Oorvasi S. Amirtharaj at Ganesh Nagar in Thoothukudi district.
Officials said the raid was conducted after receiving a tip-off that a large amount of money had allegedly been stockpiled at the house for possible distribution to voters. Acting on the information, the election flying squad led by officer Ponmari carried out a surprise inspection at the residence of the Congress candidate contesting from the Srivaikuntam Assembly constituency.
During the search, authorities reportedly found unaccounted cash amounting to ₹65 lakh hidden inside the premises. As valid supporting documents were not produced at the time of inspection, the money was seized.
The seized cash was later handed over to the local South Police Station for further action. Police have detained Suresh, a resident of Kachana Vilai in Thoothukudi district, and launched a detailed investigation.
Authorities are now probing the source of the money and whether it was intended for distribution to voters ahead of the elections.
