Amit Shah Attacks TMC and Left at Dum Dum Rally
Amit Shah on Wednesday alleged that under the rule of Mamata Banerjee and the erstwhile Left Front government, Kolkata had become a “city of slums” where infiltrators were being settled.
Addressing an election rally at Dum Dum on the eastern fringes of Kolkata, Shah accused the ruling All India Trinamool Congress government of using infiltrators as a vote bank and said the city’s lost glory needs to be restored.
He urged voters across Kolkata and the state to vote against infiltration and support efforts to revive the city’s past prominence. Shah further alleged that under the current and previous governments, the city had deteriorated significantly.
The remarks triggered a sharp response from the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, which accused the Union Home Minister of insulting the people of Bengal with his comments.
The exchange comes amid an intense political campaign ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal.
